PT Cruiser Club Chat Room Features

Free Chat Days twice per month.
The chat room is open all the time for members, but we also have free chat days for all forum users on the 1st and 15th of the month. During a free chat day, any forum user can enter chat as a guest with their forum username/password. The chat room is programmed to automatically switch to free mode when the date is the 1st or the 15th. At midnight pacific time the free mode switches off, then only PT Cruiser Club Members can enter the chat room. Guests will have "-guest" attached to their chat name automatically, PT Cruiser Club members won't.

Because you have to log into chat with your forum username and password, the chat is more safeguarded from troublemakers. Users cannot spoof other users and play games. This is also how the chat knows you are a member and how it knows what your forum avatar is so you can display it with the new /icon command.

If you tried chat as a guest and want to be able chat anytime among friends, Join the PT Cruiser Club Here

Here are the special chat command features:

To change your chat name color, type /color colorname:
/color red

The code has to be on a line by itself.
Use basic color names, like red, green, blue, brown, etc.

To display your forum icon while in chat: type /icon, or /avatar
/icon

The code has to be on a line by itself.

To display an action: type /me something:
/me waves

The code has to be on a line by itself.

To display the new smilies: type /smile
/dance

The smilie codes have to be at the end of a line.
The smilies available are:
/angel /argue /band /biggrin /bow /cheering /cheers /computer /cool /cry /dance /devil
/drive /flag /frog /gavel /grouphug /joker /juggle /hat /hi /icky /jump /jump2 /kissy
/love /nana /nono /oops /outtahere /popcorn /question /read /redface /rofl /shh /sleepy
/smile /spit /thumb /tired /tunes /typing /wave /wink

To test your internet response time while in chat: type /ping
/ping

The command has to be on a line by itself.

You can also check another chat user's response time by typing /ping username
/ping username
(replace "username" with the other person's username)

The test results will be returned to you in a private message from the chat system. Here is an example:
Ping test results for user "HHRmike" using ISP (centurytel.net) 39 milliseconds (Under 100 is very good, 100-200 is marginal, over 200 may cause chat delay.)

This will test how long a packet of information takes to get from our server to a user and back. This may help you, for example, to determine if there is net lag between your internet connection and our web site. If you are running firewall software, your software may interpret the incoming test packets as a hostile "port scan" originating from this server. Rest assured, your system is not being attacked. Also some Internet Service Providers block ping requests, so this test may not be available to you.

To change your chat nick while in chat: type /nick something
/nick something

You must type it by itself for it to function.

The "something" is your new nickname until you change it, or log out. The nick code has to be on a line by itself. Your original nickname will be preceded by a tilde so other users will know it is an alias. (like this: ~new nick) The tilde indicator prevents users from pretending to be other users and is a security feature. You can view a users profile by clicking on their name in the message window. You can change your nick as much as you want while in chat.

To change back to your original nick while in chat: type /nick by itself:
/nick

To change your chat nickname permanently:
Log into your forum profile and change your forum username.

To have a spouse chat at the same time under one membership:

This feature will also allow you and a spouse to chat at the same time on two computers, even if you only have one membership. Log in the first person using the forum username/password, then change your nick

/nick something

You must change the nick to be able to log in a 2nd user. The 2nd person can now log in using the same forum username/password. The 2nd person can change the nick if they want, but that is optional. (for security reasons this feature only works when sharing the same internet connection and IP address)

View a chatter's profile: When you are chatting, you can click on a chatters name in the message window and a new page will open showing the chatters profile.

Try it! have fun!
